The Role:
The Boar Stud Site Manager will be responsible for managing the daily operations of a boar stud site, focusing on animal health, semen collection, biosecurity, and staff management. This individual will ensure that the site operates efficiently, producing high-quality boar semen for breeding programs. Key Responsibilities:
Animal Care & Production Management:
  • Oversee the daily care and monitoring of boars to ensure optimal health and performance.
  • Manage and supervise semen collection and processing to meet production targets and quality standards.
  • Ensure adherence to breeding schedules and protocols for optimal semen production.
Biosecurity & Health Protocols:
  • Implement and enforce strict biosecurity protocols to prevent disease outbreaks.
  • Coordinate with veterinarians and health teams to manage animal vaccinations, health checks, and treatments.
  • Monitor and report animal health metrics to ensure compliance with farm policies and industry regulations.
Facility Management & Maintenance:
  • Ensure the site is clean, well-maintained, and operates smoothly, including ventilation, feeding systems, and equipment.
  • Coordinate with the maintenance team to manage repairs and minimize downtime.
  • Maintain appropriate inventories of supplies, feed, and equipment.
Staff Management & Training:
  • Lead, mentor, and supervise a small team of employees to achieve site goals.
  • Coordinate schedules and assign tasks to ensure efficient site operations.
  • Provide ongoing training to employees on animal handling, safety, and biosecurity practices.
Record Keeping & Reporting:
  • Maintain detailed records of production data, semen quality, animal health, and staff activities.
  • Provide regular reports to upper management on site performance and suggest process improvements.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Experience:
    • Previous experience managing a boar stud, nucleus herd, or Gilt Development Unit (GDU) site is required.
    • Familiarity with semen collection, processing, and quality control is a strong advantage.
  • Education: A degree or diploma in Agriculture, Animal Science, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Skills & Attributes:
    • Strong leadership skills with experience managing a team.
    • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
    • Strong understanding of biosecurity protocols and animal health practices.
