Farrowing Lead

A stable and growing pork powerhouse is seeking a dedicated and experienced Farrowing Lead to oversee and manage the farrowing operations at their OH facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the health and well-being of the sows, leading a team of farm workers, and maintaining high standards of animal care and facility management.
Reports To: Sow Farm Manager
Key Responsibilities:
- Farrowing Management: Oversee all aspects of the farrowing process, including the preparation of farrowing rooms, monitoring sows during labor, and ensuring the safe delivery and care of piglets.
- Animal Health and Welfare: Ensure the health and well-being of sows and piglets by monitoring their condition, administering medications, and implementing health and nutrition programs.
- Team Leadership: Lead, train, and manage a team of farm workers, providing guidance and support to ensure all tasks are performed efficiently and to high standards.
- Facility Maintenance: Maintain cleanliness and functionality of farrowing facilities, ensuring all equipment is in good working order and biosecurity protocols are strictly followed.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of farrowing activities, including birth data, health treatments, and mortality rates. Use this data to identify trends and improve farrowing practices.
- Problem-Solving: Identify and address any issues that arise during the farrowing process, from health concerns to equipment malfunctions.
- Communication: Coordinate with other farm management and staff to ensure smooth operations and effective communication across departments.
Qualifications:
- Education: Degree in Animal Science, Agriculture, or related field preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in swine production, with specific experience in farrowing operations.
- Skills: Strong leadership and team management skills, excellent problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills.
- Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of swine health, nutrition, and farrowing processes.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working in varying temperatures.
- TN Visa or I-94 with expiry no earlier than 2025.
