THE ROLE:
Production Management
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of grow-finish sites to achieve production goals, including growth rates, feed efficiency, and mortality rates.
- Implement and monitor protocols for animal health, nutrition, and biosecurity to ensure optimal pig performance and welfare.
- Collaborate with the nutrition and feed mill teams to ensure timely delivery and proper feed formulation.
- Maintain accurate production records and manage inventory levels.
Team Leadership and Training
- Lead and mentor farm managers and technicians, fostering a culture of excellence and teamwork.
- Ensure team members understand and adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and identify opportunities for staff development.
Animal Health and Welfare
- Work with veterinary and health teams to monitor herd health, diagnose issues, and implement treatment plans.
- Ensure compliance with all animal welfare regulations and company guidelines.
- Provide ongoing training to staff on proper handling techniques to uphold high welfare standards.
Data Analysis and Reporting
- Analyze production metrics such as Average Daily Gain (ADG), Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR), and mortality rates to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
- Prepare and present reports to senior management, highlighting progress toward production targets and recommending actions.
Compliance and Biosecurity
- Ensure adherence to all local, state, and federal regulations related to swine production.
- Implement and enforce strict biosecurity measures to protect the health and productivity of the herd.
- Conduct routine audits to ensure compliance with company policies and standards.
Budgeting and Cost Management
- Collaborate on the development of operational budgets and monitor expenditures to maintain cost efficiency.
- Identify opportunities to reduce waste and optimize resource utilization.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Agriculture, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in swine production, particularly grow-finish operations.
- Proven leadership experience with a track record of managing and developing teams.
- Comprehensive knowledge of swine production systems, including health, nutrition, and biosecurity protocols.
- Strong analytical abilities to interpret data and implement actionable improvements.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and farm management software.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in a farm environment, with exposure to animals, dust, and varying temperatures.
- Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds and performing physical tasks as needed.
