A premier leader in the pork production industry is seeking an experienced and dedicated Sow Farm Manager to oversee the daily operations of one of their sow farms in MI. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing farm staff, ensuring the health and well-being of sows and piglets, and achieving production goals. This role requires strong leadership, excellent organizational skills, and a deep commitment to maintaining the highest standards of animal welfare.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership: Lead, train, and manage a team of farm workers to ensure efficient and effective farm operations. Provide guidance, support, and performance feedback to staff members.
- Operational Management: Oversee all aspects of sow farm operations, including breeding, farrowing, weaning, and nursery management. Ensure that all daily tasks are completed to a high standard.
- Animal Health and Welfare: Monitor the health and well-being of sows and piglets. Implement and maintain health programs, including nutrition, medication, and vaccination schedules. Ensure adherence to biosecurity protocols.
- Production Planning: Develop and implement production plans to achieve farm goals. Monitor production metrics and adjust strategies as needed to optimize performance.
- Facility Maintenance: Ensure that the farm facilities are well-maintained and that equipment is functioning correctly. Address maintenance issues promptly to prevent disruptions to farm operations.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of animal health, production data, and inventory. Use data to identify trends and make informed management decisions.
- Budget Management: Manage the farm budget, controlling costs while maintaining high standards of animal care and facility maintenance.
- Communication: Maintain effective communication with farm owners, management, and staff. Report on farm performance and address any issues or concerns promptly.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Agriculture, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in sow farm management or a similar role in swine production. Farrowing or Gestation Leads with 2 years or more experience are encouraged to apply.
- Skills: Strong leadership and team management skills, excellent organizational abilities, and effective communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) is required.
- Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of swine production, animal husbandry, and biosecurity practices.
- TN-Visa or I-94 should expire no earlier than 2025.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Comfortable working in varying temperatures and conditions typical of a farm environment.
