Holstein sire evaluations will change by April 2018, according to an article I read in Dairy Herd Management. There will be six health traits added. These are ketosis, metritis, hypocalcemia, retained placentas, and displaced abosamus, in no particular order.
These evaluations are being present as percentages. A higher positive value will indicate greater resistance than breed average, according to Council for Dairy Cattle Breeding geneticist Kristen Gaddis.
These health traits are to be incorporated into indexes so dairy farmers can estimate the total economic value. Preliminary evaluations of health traits will perform in December 2017. These will release to AI organizations, Dairy Records Processing Centers, and also to breed associations. However, these will be non-official and will not release to the public.
