South Korea Removes U.S. Ban from Poultry Products
U.S. broiler companies will exhilarate to hear that South Korea has lifted the ban on poultry and poultry products from the U.S. According to an article in Poultry Times, the ban was off for products slaughtered after August 16, 2017.
The ban was put in place due to the detection of HPAI (highly pathogenic avian influenza). The U.S. notified the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) that is was free of HPAI on August 11.
This is a big move for the egg and poultry industry. Sonny Perdue, the U.S. Agriculture Secretary, says that “South Korea is one of our best-trading partners, and we want to continue being their most dependable supplier of high-quality food and farm products.”
Poultry groups are rejoicing over this new development. However, they also call for a regional approach with regard to HPAI outbreaks, should there be any in the future. Read the full article here.
