Sharing the Stories That Keep Our Industry Moving Forward – Cris Soronio

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from recruiting in the swine industry, it’s that behind every thriving farm or production system, there’s a story,  often one that doesn’t get told enough. And many of those stories belong to women.

From production managers who’ve turned challenges into career milestones, to animal caretakers who put their heart into every sow and piglet, to veterinarians, nutritionists, and leaders who are quietly shaping the future, these women deserve to be seen and celebrated.

That’s why I’m launching “Women in Swine”, a new column on SwineWeb that highlights the women who make our industry stronger. Each story will shine a light on their journeys, lessons learned, and the personal grit that got them where they are.

This idea started with simple conversations, talking with candidates, colleagues, and leaders who reminded me that the swine industry isn’t just about numbers or production goals. It’s about people. It’s about connection. And it’s about the passion that keeps barns running, teams  motivated, and pigs thriving.

Through “Women in Swine”, I want to share those stories, not just of success, but of perseverance, growth, and purpose. Because every woman in this industry, whether she’s managing a sow farm, studying genetics, leading a team, or just starting out, plays a part in something bigger.

And to make sure these stories reach even more of the industry, each featured nominee will also be published in our publication, Animal Science Monitor.

Objectives (Why we’re doing this)

  • To Inspire: Encourage young women to see that there’s a place for them in swine.
  • To Recognize: Celebrate those who have carved their path with resilience and leadership.
  • To Connect: Bring together women across roles, backgrounds, and regions — reminding us that we’re all part of the same story.

How to Nominate a Woman in Swine

Do you know a woman who deserves to be featured?

Maybe she’s a mentor, a problem-solver, or someone who quietly gets things done every day with passion and purpose. Maybe that woman is you.

To nominate, send me a quick email at Cris@continentalsearch.com or message me on LinkedIn. Include the nominee’s name, role, and a short note on why you think she should be featured in “Women in Swine”,

Each month, we’ll feature a different woman: her journey, her challenges, and her advice for others walking the same path.

Because at the end of the day, the swine industry runs on more than feed and genetics. It runs on people, and the women in it are making a difference every single day. Let’s make sure their stories are heard.
